The player pool that will compete at the U.S. women’s national team tryouts from June 9-11 at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., will be well represented during this weekend’s NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Towson University.
U.S. team head coach Jenny Levy is also the head coach of No. 1 seeded North Carolina and a total of 21 tryout candidates will be participating in the NCAA championships as either an active player or coach.
The U.S. team tryouts will be the first step of another quest to reach Towson, the site of the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship. Levy and her staff will welcome 63 of the nation’s top players for the three-day tryout that will include a one-hour livestream on Lax Sports Network on Thursday, June 10.
Former national team players Sheehan Stanwick Burch and Kristen Kjellman Marshall will co-host the show, which will feature live interviews, taped segments and an up-close and behind-the-scenes look at the best players in the world in action.
This weekend’s NCAA tournament rosters include 16 players and five coaches invited to the tryout from the four participating schools. Representing Boston College are players Charlotte North and Belle Smith and coaches Sam Apuzzo and Kayla Treanor. Representing North Carolina are players Katie Hoeg, Ally Mastroianni, Kerrigan Miller, Taylor Moreno, Jamie Ortega, Emma Trenchard and coaches Marie McCool and Emily Parros. Representing Northwestern are players Lauren Gilbert, Lindsey McKone, Sammy Mueller, Ally Palermo and Izzy Scane. Representing Syracuse are players Sarah Cooper, Emily Hawryschuk, Sam Swart and coach Sydney Pirreca.
The U.S. women’s national team trains and plays using best-in-class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), Gait (equipment), STX (equipment), Maverik (equipment), Cascade (goalie helmets), Game On (mouthguards), Gilman Gear (goals), Pearl Lacrosse (balls) and DJO (sports braces).
