SPARKS, Md. USA Lacrosse has named Steven Brooks, Mark Glicini, Michael Gongas and Drew Snider as the boys’ coaches for the 2023 USA Select teams. Brooks and Snider will coach the U18 team and Glicini and Gongas will coach the U16 team.

The USA Select teams are chosen from participants of the National Team Development Program (NTDP). Following NTDP regional tryouts, more than 130 players were selected to attend a national combine, which begins on Monday at USA Lacrosse headquarters. Following the combine, 22 players will be named to each of the USA Select U16 and U18 teams and will compete against international competition during the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic in October.

Brooks is in his fourth year coaching in the NTDP. An assistant coach with Atlas LC in the Premier Lacrosse League, Brooks is a past competitor with the U.S. national team. He won two national championships as an All-American player at Syracuse and won two MLL championships at the professional level. Brooks, an Illinois native, was the head coach for the USA Select U18 team last year.

Snider is in his second year coaching with the NTDP after serving as an assistant coach for the U16 team last year. Snider, a native of Washington, was a member of the 2018 U.S. men’s team that won the world championship in Netanya, Israel and also won a bronze medal with the 2015 U.S. box team. He was an All-American at Maryland and won four professional championships – three with the Denver Outlaws in the MLL and one with the Whipsnakes in the PLL.

Glicini participated with the U.S. national team program on the training teams for both the senior team and the inaugural Sixes team. Glicini is a captain for Chaos LC in the PLL and helped the team win the 2021 league championship. A New Jersey native, Glicini was an All-American shortstick midfielder at Yale. He won the PLL’s Jimmy Regan Teammate Award in 2019.

Gongas, a Long Island native, has been an assistant coach at Hofstra University since 2019. He began his collegiate career at Massachusetts and later transferred to Adelphi where he earned All-America honors. He has extensive experience coaching at a variety of levels of collegiate lacrosse with positions at Suffolk County CC, Presbyterian, Sacred Heart and Marist before his current role at Hofstra. He was also the equipment manager for the 2023 U.S. men's team that won the world championship in San Diego.

Since launching in 2019, the NTDP has helped serve as a pipeline to the U.S. National Team Program, providing athletes with exposure to players, coaches and training methods from the national team program. Each year, approximately 1,500 boys and girls participate in the program.

The USA Lacrosse NTDP is sponsored by Cascade Maverik. STX, New Balance, Gatorade, Enovis, MedStar Health, NCSA, First Scout Productions, Stryker, Athletic Republic.
