In a matchup of the two remaining unbeaten teams in Pool A at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship, the United States continued its near flawless run with a 29-1 victory over China at Shep Kip Mei Park in Hong Kong, China.
The United States moved to 3-0 and after an off-day on Monday will wrap up pool play on Tuesday against Israel (1-2) at 1:30 p.m local time (1:30 a.m. Eastern). The U.S. clinched the top spot in Pool A with the victory over China.
On Sunday, the U.S. held China (2-1) to just one shot through the first three quarters of the game, once again fueled by a big advantage in the draw circle. The U.S. won 27 of 32 draws and Maddie Epke posted her third straight game with double-digit draw controls by winning 11.
Madison Alaimo was one of three U.S. players with seven points and earned Player of the Match honors. Alaimo finished with three goals and four assists, scoring all seven points in the first half, including three consecutive goals that bridged the first and second quarters.
Ally Reilly (4g, 3a) and Emma LoPinto (3g, 4a) both had seven points as well as the U.S. got four goals each from Emma Muchnick and Madison Taylor. Noel Cumberland added three goals and Haven Dora had three assists as the U.S. had assists on 19 of its 29 goals.
Defensively, Caitlin Barrett led the U.S. with two caused turnovers. Shea Dolce made two first half saves while pitching a shutout and Francesca Argentieri made two saves while allowing just one goal in the second half.
Tegan Tianqin Ng scored the line goal for China, which wraps up pool play on Monday against Puerto Rico.
