SPARKS, Md. — Registration is now open for the men’s and women’s regional tryouts for the USA Lacrosse National Team Development Program (NTDP). The NTDP is a pathway to the U.S. National Team Program designed for high school students.
Last year, a total of 1,673 student-athletes from 43 states participated in regional tryouts with 88 ultimately being named to USA Select Teams that competed in the Brogden Cup.
There are 23 regional tryouts, 12 women’s and 11 men’s, scheduled for this year, beginning with events on May 20 in Alabama. The regional tryouts run the through the end of June. Players unable to attend a local regional tryout will be permitted to submit a virtual application. The virtual application will be available later this month.
To be eligible for the 2022 National Team Development Program, individuals must be born on or between September 1, 2003 and August 31, 2008. Students must be enrolled in high school by the start of the 2022-2023 academic school year to be eligible. If they are age-eligible, but are enrolled in the 8th grade or in college at the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic school year, they are not eligible to participate this year.
Following the tryout, approximately 300 individuals, 150 men and 150 women, will be invited to attend one of the National Combines at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. The men’s combine will be held Aug. 1-3 and the women’s combine will be held Aug. 8-10.
From the combine, 22 players will be named to each of the four USA Select teams — Men’s U16, Men’s U18, Women’s U16 and Women’s U18. The USA Select teams will compete against international teams in the Brogden Cup during the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic at USA Lacrosse headquarters the weekend of Oct. 14-16. The U.S. has captured the Brodgen Cup during the two most recent outings (2019 and 2021).
