Powered by a 14-11 victory over No. 3 Clemson Club last week, the Georgia Bulldogs have claimed the top spot in the WCLA Division I Top 20 ranking and bounced defending champion UCLA out of the number one position for the first time this season. Georgia (12-0) recorded its eighth win of the year over a ranked opponent.

While Georgia moves to No. 1 for this first time in 2025, the top spot is not unfamiliar territory. The Bulldogs had a hold on number one for virtually the entire 2024 season before dropping to number two heading into the postseason. The Bulldogs have won 69 games since the start of the 2022 season, more than any other team.

Georgia club president Skylar DeLuca spoke earlier this season about her team’s goals.

“This season, we’ve put a strong emphasis on teamwork and cohesion, focusing on playing as a united group. This team has so much talent, so we want to use the depth of our roster and make the most of every play. We perform our best when we’re having fun and celebrating each other’s successes.”

UCLA, which has been idle since March 2, drops to No. 2 this week. The Bruins (9-0) are the only other undefeated team remaining and return to action this week against No. 19 Cal Poly.

No. 3 Clemson, No. 4 Boston College Club, and No. 5 Michigan Club round out the top five.

BC climbed three spots this week following wins over No. 9 Virginia Tech and No. 16 Providence. The Friars (5-1) are playing their first Division I season after finishing as the D-II national runner-up in 2024, and were the only newcomer in this week’s ranking at No. 16.

“Moving to Division I has been an exciting challenge for our team,” said Providence co-captain Sarah Horsey. “The level of competition has pushed us to work harder, remain committed, and really elevate our game. It’s been a great opportunity for us to grow as a program. So far, we’ve been competing very well, and we’re proud of the effort and dedication our team has shown.”

Many of the Top 20 teams are back in action this week, including several (Michigan, BC, Notre Dame, Central Florida) that will be participating in the Mile High Tournament in Boulder, Colo.

In Division II, undefeated Cal State San Marcos (10-0) continues to hold the top spot after a 10-6 win over No. 10 Fullerton College last week. UC San Diego moved up two spots this week to number two, earning its highest ranking of the season, with No. 3 Cal Poly ‘B’, No. 4 Ole Miss, and No. 5 Boise State rounding out the D-II top five.

Games of interest in the D-II Top 20 this week include No. 8 Denver matching up against both No. 5 Boise State and No. 13 Montana State, and No. 10 Fullerton College vs. No. 20 UCLA ‘B’.

Nearly 150 non-varsity collegiate teams comprise the WCLA and compete under the USA Lacrosse umbrella. The season will conclude with the top qualifiers competing in the national championship tournament in Wichita, Kansas, May 7-10.
