SPARKS, Md. —Registration for the inaugural USA Lacrosse Academy, a professional development opportunity for coaches and officials, is now open. The first USA Lacrosse Academy is set for Oct. 7-8 at the Hyatt Regency in Indianapolis and a second event is being planned for Philadelphia (Jan. 13-14, 2024).
The Indy event will include multiple sessions for men’s game and women’s game coaches and a one-day “Train the Trainers” track in officiating.
The men’s game speaker lineup for coaches includes three Division I head coaches — Chris Kolon (Detroit Mercy), Jim Lange (Lindenwood) and Andrew Whitley (Bellarmine) — along with Jacob DeCola (head coach Albion), Austin Grimes (assistant coach UIndy), Dan Sahm (head coach Purdue) and Michael Schanhals (head coach Hope).
The women’s game coach speakers include two individuals with U.S. national team experience — Amy Bokker, the former Ohio State head coach who was a two-gold medalist (2013, 2017) as an assistant coach with the U.S. women’s national team; and Kylie Ohlmiller, a gold medalist player on the 2022 U.S. women’s national team. Also presenting are Meg Decker (head coach Xaiver), Nick Estey (director Circle City Lacrosse), Anne Moelk (head coach DePauw), Lindsey Pound (assistant coach Butler), McKenna Rushford (assistant coach Butler) and Maggie Zentraff (head coach Butler).
The "Train the Trainer" session provides USA Lacrosse Trainers and Observers with practical insight and education on how to train new and returning officials. These professional development clinic sessions are offered to prepare current and potential Certified Trainers and Observers for the upcoming 2024 season.
