New Webinar Will Discuss Perceptions of Headgear Use in Women’s Lacrosse

By Paul Ohanian

This Monday, December 13, USA Lacrosse is hosting its newest webinar in the women’s headgear series, entitled “Perceptions of Headgear Use in Women’s Lacrosse.’ This virtual event will feature findings from recent research by Dr. Trish Kelshaw, PhD, at the University of New Hampshire.

The webinar is free and open to all but requires advance registration.

“Dr. Kelshaw was part of the research team that conducted the recent headgear study in Florida, and as part of the effort, she collected significant data from players, coaches, and officials about the perceptions related to the use of women’s headgear,” said Caitlin Kelley, women’s lacrosse director at USA Lacrosse. “We think that the audience will find her presentation to be very insightful and informative.”

Funding for the research study was provided by the Center for Sport Science at USA Lacrosse and NOCSAE (National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment).

Headgear use is optional in the rules at all levels of play in girls’ and women’s lacrosse, but if used, headgear must meet the ASTM standard, F3137. USA Lacrosse helped lead the development of the standard but receives no financial benefit from the use of women’s headgear or any other protective equipment.
