SPARKS, Md. — Coming off of a memorable world championship victory this summer in Towson, Md., the U.S. women’s national team begins a new era with the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic on Oct. 14-16 at USA Lacrosse headquarters.

Some of the leaders of the program in recent years, including 2022 All-World players Taylor Cummings, Alice Mercer and Kayla Treanor, have announced their retirements from the national team program following the world championship, but there is plenty of returning firepower set to begin the building process towards the next world championship.

Nine gold medalists from this past summer will be on the field when the U.S. women face reigning NCAA champion North Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon. The U.S. – UNC game is part of a big weekend that includes the USA Men’s Showcase on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 pm, the U.S. men playing a doubleheader against reigning NCAA champion Maryland on Saturday, Oct. 15 and the Brogden Cup, featuring the USA Select U16 and U18 teams playing competition from Ontario and the Haudenosaunee Nation, from Oct. 14-16.

Headlining the U.S. women’s roster for Fall Classic will be two-time gold medalists Meg Douty and Marie McCool. McCool, a midfielder, was tied for second on the U.S. team with 20 goals to earn All-World honors while Douty, an All-World defender at the 2017 championship, was limited to just two games due to an injury in 2022, but will be back healthy.

Some other big names suiting up for the USA at the Fall Classic include 2018 Tewaaraton winner Sam Apuzzo (tied for team lead with 14 assists at the world championship), midfielder Ally Mastroianni (team-high 38 draw controls) and two-time Tewaaraton winner Charlotte North (team-leading 23 goals). Other returning gold medalists include Ally Kennedy, Molly Hendricks, Emma Trenchard and Caylee Waters. Kylie Ohlmiller, who was injured during the world championship, will be at the event but unable to play.

The U.S. women’s national team trains and plays using best-in-class products from Nike Lacrosse (apparel and footwear), DJO (sports bracing) and game-changing, high-performance equipment from Cascade Maverik, Gait Lacrosse and STX.

In addition to these partners, Gatorade, MedStar Health, National Center for Safety Initiatives and Stryker are officials sponsors of the U.S. national team program. Team training is also aided by products from Athletic Republic.
