Jimmeh Koita’s timing was perfect. 
 
Late in the fourth quarter of the CAA championship game against Hofstra, the fifth-year senior fired on the whistle. In fractions of a second, he pinched and popped the ball straight to himself to secure possession. In doing so, Koita also sealed the Dragons’ first conference tournament title and NCAA tournament bid since 2014.

As Mikaela Watson came back to Stanford last fall after the prolonged offseason and picked up her lacrosse stick again, she also picked up a paintbrush.

The Cardinal’s return in September was challenging. Just 16 of their 40 players were allowed on campus. They couldn’t run practices. They didn’t even know if they’d have a spring season.

Koby Smith walked confidently into Towson’s Field House on Jan. 30, some 100 yards from the parking lot where he parked his 1997 Chevy Suburban.

On a day when his teammates wore costumes like Jimmy McElroy from “Blades of Glory” and a suit jacket inspired by flamingos, Smith let his Mocha 1 Air Jordans do the talking — fresh kicks with the black Nike logo working alongside slabs of brown and black.

Rachel Hall knew she didn’t have much to lose.

In the waning seconds of the first half during Boston College’s final Maroon and Gold scrimmage this past fall, Hall launched a clearing pass from her crease to well over midfield. She was confident that if she threw it up anywhere near the stick of her “partner in crime,” she’d catch it.

Charlotte North did just that.
