Over the past three WCLA seasons, there’s been no team that has won more games than Georgia. The Bulldogs amassed a gaudy 57-7 record from 2022 through 2024, with two national runner-up finishes and one additional national semifinal berth. The only achievement that has alluded Georgia during that stretch is the national championship.
Perhaps 2025 will bring that coveted prize. The Bulldogs certainly seem to on the right path.
No. 2 Georgia is now 10-0 this season after an impressive 3-0 showing at last weekend’s Cactus Classic in Arizona. Seven of its 10 victories have come against ranked opponents, including lopsided wins in the desert over No. 10 Arizona State, No. 18 BYU, and then-No. 20 Utah Valley.
“We’re so excited to remain undefeated after two highly competitive weekends,” said Georgia club president Skylar DeLuca. “This season, we’ve put a strong emphasis on teamwork and cohesion, focusing on playing as a united group. We perform our best when we’re having fun and celebrating each other’s successes.”
Georgia’s closest game this year was a six-goal victory in its opener against Vanderbilt. Six of the wins have been by 10 goals or more.
“Our goal this season is to keep playing our game, use the depth of our roster, and make the most of every play,” DeLuca said. “This team has so much talent, and we can’t wait to see how much further we can go together.”
Defending champion UCLA, which was idle last week, retains its hold on the top spot in this week’s Top 20 ranking, followed by Georgia. No. 3 BC Club, No. 4 Virginia Club, and No. 5 Michigan Club round out the top five.
No. 14 Central Florida and No. 18 Providence are the newcomers in this week’s ranking after both clubs posted impressive wins over ranked opponents last week. UCF defeated then-No. 15 Florida State, 10-6, and also owns a victory over No. 8 Virginia Tech this season.
Meanwhile, Providence earned its first Division I win and first Top 20 appearance after upsetting No. 10 Northeastern last weekend. The Friars are playing their inaugural season at the D-I level after finishing as the D-II national runner-up in 2024.
After three weeks of major tournaments, there’s no national event on this week’s calendar, but there are still several big games. Match-ups to keep an eye on this weekend include No. 1 UCLA at No. 11 UC Santa Barbara. No. 5 Virginia Club against No. 17 Florida State; No. 6 Florida Club vs. No. 7 Clemson Club; and No. 12 Utah vs. No. 20 Colorado.
Nearly 150 non-varsity collegiate teams comprise the WCLA and compete under the USA Lacrosse umbrella. The season will conclude with the top qualifiers competing in the national championship tournament in Wichita, Kansas, May 7-10.
