MID-ATLANTIC
Gabbi Koury, Owen J. Roberts (Pa.)
Gabbi Koury hadn’t been born the last time that Owen J. Roberts won a district championship. The senior midfielder stuffed the stat sheet to help the Wildcats to a 14-7 win over Penncrest in the District 1 AAA title game. Owen J. Roberts hadn’t won a district title since they were a AA school in 2002. They had lost in the finals in 2016. Koury helped ensure that the title drought ended with a hat trick in the first half of the game. She finished with an assist as well, won 10 draw controls, scooped up nine ground balls and caused four turnovers. The Florida commit earlier this year surpassed 400 career points. She and Syracuse-bound Alexa Vogelman, who had five goals and five draws in the district title game, have been one of the most potent 1-2 punches in all of the Mid-Atlantic Region. Owen J. Roberts, which also won the Pioneer Athletic Conference crown, is 23-1 heading into the state tournament where it hopes to add a third championship this season.
