Mid-Atlantic Top 10

Following a wild week that saw no less than four IAAM upsets, one member coach said, “This might be the most parity we have had in the conference in a long time,” before adding, “It is great!”

Except when it comes to sorting through the rankings, which will draw plenty of debate, though nothing appears predictable. Unbeaten Episcopal (Pa.) is the comfortable choice at No. 1, and McDonogh (Md.), the only IAAM unbeaten, is a lock at No. 2 (their lone loss is to Episcopal).

St. Paul’s (Md.), Archbishop Spalding (Md.) and Maryvale (Md.) all suffered upset losses, but there wasn’t much movement among them because they’d already established success against other ranked teams. Spalding fell a few spots because it lost twice last week.

An ever-improving Good Counsel (Md.) moved back into the rankings after topping South power Milton (Ga.), while St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.) makes its Top 10 debut this year after defeating previously ranked Potomac (Va.).

With the region in full swing, it’s only going to get harder. Penn Charter (Pa.), unbeaten Severna Park (Md.), Notre Dame Prep (Md.) and Summit (N.J.) all are lurking just outside the Top 10. .

Our Mid-Atlantic rankings cover D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

1. Episcopal (Pa.), 9-0

Quinn Whitaker scored four goals and caused two turnovers, Maeve Irish scored a hat trick and Nora Bailer had eight draw controls in a 14-4 win over Notre Dame Academy (Pa.). Episcopal also handed Summit (N.J.) its first loss of the season, 12-6. Whitaker and Sofia Gagliardi scored four goals apiece, Teagan Cook delivered four assists and Bailer won 13 draw controls. Whitaker also had five draws. Germantown Academy (Pa.) and Springside Chestnut Hill (Pa.) are next to try to slow Episcopal. Previous: 1

2. McDonogh (Md.), 7-1

Reagan O’Donovan stopped 13 shots and Payton Magday finished with a hat trick on four shots taken in an 8-6 win over Notre Dame (Md.). The Eagles remained the lone unbeaten in IAAM play with an 11-7 win over Severn (Md.) before four goals from Ava Fossati and Kit Laake causing a pair of turnovers and winning four ground balls. They play St. Paul’s (Md.) in a huge game to start the week. Previous: 3

3. St. Paul's (Md.), 6-2

The Gators opened their week with a solid 9-4 win over John Carroll (Md.), but then suffered their second loss in the IAAM when St. Mary’s (Md.) pulled off a 9-8 upset.  Both of their losses this year have come by identical 9-8 scores. They play at McDonogh (Md.) and then host Roland Park (Md.) this week. Previous: 4

4. Stone Ridge (Md.), 10-3

The Gators ripped a pair of Independent School League teams. They beat Maret (D.C.) 18-4 and Holy Child (Md.) 18-5 this week. Chloe Cassidy totaled six goals and two assists, Sophie Stoltz had five goals and two assists, Sarah White scored three goals and had three assists and Kate Raffo had three goals and two assists. Stone Ridge has won eight straight games. They face St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.) and St. Anne’s-Belfield (Va.) in an important week. Previous: 5

5. Archbishop Spalding (Md.), 4-2

The Cavaliers suffered two defeats in three games last week. Roland Park (Md.) stunned Spalding, 11-10, to start the week. The Cavaliers bounced back with a dominant 19-6 win over Glenelg Country Day (Md.) before the week ended with a 9-8 loss to John Carroll (Md.) on the weekend. They were scheduled to start this week with a game against public powerhouse Severna Park (Md.) before playing St. Mary’s (Md.) to end the week. Previous: 2

6. Agnes Irwin (Pa.), 6-1

The Owls held off Penn Charter (Pa.) 8-7. Caroline Chisholm and Catie Holmes delivered hat tricks, Kelsey Young had three caused turnovers and Rowan Pauzano made six saves. They handled Springside Chestnut Hill (Pa.) 18-3 to start the week. Kelsey Young scored five goals, Mairyn Dwyer scored twice and assisted on two goals, and Rowan Lawrence had a hat trick. The Owls face Hun (N.J.) and Notre Dame Academy (Pa.) next. Previous: 6

7. Maryvale (Md.) 6-2

The Lions suffered a 10-9 overtime loss to Bryn Mawr (Md.) to open their week before rebounding with a 20-1 win over Garrison Forest (Md.). They’ll stay in the IAAM with a pair of games this week against Severn (Md.) and Notre Dame (Md.). Previous: 7

8. Good Counsel (Md.), 7-3

Credit the Panther youngsters for their development. Good Counsel suffered a rash of unfortunate injuries early in the year, and many of them are going to be out for an extended time. Young players have stepped into bigger roles and helped the Panthers reel off five wins last week, including a huge 10-8 win over visiting Milton (Ga.). This week, they will be tested by Potomac (Va.) after a game against Bishop O’Connell (Va.). Previous: NR

9. Manchester Valley (Md.), 4-0

Taylor Fique, Addison Myers and Emma Penczek all had hat tricks in a 14-5 win over Liberty (Md.). The Mavericks only had a 5-4 lead before pulling away. They also defeated Middletown (Md.) 25-3. Manchester Valley will play South Carroll (Md.) and Westminster (Md.) this week. Previous: 9

10. St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.), 8-1
Legendary coach Kathleen Jenkins has her Saints playing well in the early going. SSSA picked up its best win of the year, 10-6, over Potomac (Va.). Summer Bickley had a hat trick and an assist in the win and Harper Jensen scored once and supplied three assists to finish her week with six goals and three assists. The Saints will play Oakton (Va.), Stone Ridge (Md.), and then host their Spring Fling when they’ll face Langley (Va.) and Loyola (Ill.). Previous: NR

South Top 10

The South Region is the first to hit the playoffs with Florida now set for the most exciting part of the year. The region saw several shifts after some big wins in and out of region.

American Heritage-Delray (Fla.) asserted itself in a lopsided win over former No. 2 IMG Academy (Fla.). Milton (Ga.) picked up another big national win and that helped pull up both itself and Cambridge (Ga.), one of two teams to beat them.

Ponte Vedra (Fla.) enters the playoffs on a high note with a win over Lake Highland (Fla.) which drops to No. 10.

Our South rankings cover the region from North Carolina south to Florida and west to Texas.

7. Plant (Fla.), 17-0

Plant then added a 15-11 victory over Bartram Trail (Fla.) and a 17-8 win against Episcopal Jacksonville (Fla.). It was a monster week for McKenzey Craig, who had a combined 36 points, including 12 points against Sickles. Previous: 7

Midwest Top 10

Two new teams entered the Midwest Region rankings. Thomas Worthington (Ohio) started its season with a quality win to jump all the way to No. 4. St. Francis DeSales (Ohio) has also made a name for itself in the early going and debuts at No. 10.

Aside from that, it’s business as usual for the region. Things could take a new look with the Loyola (Ill.) and New Trier (Ill.) set to face off this week in a matchup of the top two squads in the region. Thomas Worthington (Ohio) will play Carmel (Ind.) in another top-10 matchup this week.

Our Midwest rankings cover Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin.

1. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 7-1

After an exhausting three-game weekend in California, the Ramblers cooled off a bit, playing just one game this past week and winning it handily over Hersey (Ill.). Marquette commit Emily Couri, a senior, and sophomore Molly Dwyer led the way with four goals apiece, while junior Mia Chupaila also had a hat trick, senior Eva Bonnano tallied four assists and sophomore Chloe Mangel had 15 draw controls. Loyola's schedule toughens once more this week with archrival New Trier (Ill.) on April 8 followed by a Mid-Atlantic trip. Previous: 1

2. New Trier (Ill.), 4-2

Like the Ramblers, the Trevians cruised this past week heading into the April 8 rivalry game. New Trier beat Chicagoland counterparts Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South by a combined score of 38-3. Three players had hat tricks and seven had multiple goals in the Trevians' 20-3 win over the Spartans, senior Ellie Bornhoeft erupted for six goals and an assist in their 18-0 win over the Titans and junior Avery Anderson had a hat trick (and a combined 11 draw controls) in both games. Previous: 2

3. Olentangy Liberty (Ohio), 4-1

The Patriots had an excellent week, going 3-0 against a trio of strong opponents in Olentangy (Ohio), Hinsdale Central (Ill.) and Pine-Richland (Pa.). Senior Madeline Pohmer (4 goals, 2 assists) and junior Megan Benton (5 goals, 1 assist) had six points apiece in their win over the Red Devils, one of the top teams in the Land of Lincoln, with Benton and Pohmer then tallying eight points apiece against the Rams, one of the top teams on the western side of Pennsylvania. Three more solid opponents await this week, all in-state, in Dublin Coffman, Thomas Worthington and Jackson. Previous: 3

4. Thomas Worthington (Ohio), 1-0

A year ago, the Cardinals finished the year with a sub-.500 record, but it's worth noting who they played and how close some of those games were, including a victory over Buckeye State powerhouse Upper Arlington, a one-goal loss to Division II state champ St. Francis DeSales and a two-goal defeat against Illinois powerhouse New Trier. Speaking of the Land of Lincoln, Worthington certainly started its 2025 season with a doozy of a result, edging a very strong Hinsdale Central team by two goals. It's very early in the Cardinals' season, they're one game in, but they're worth keeping an eye on. Previous: NR

5. Hinsdale Central (Ill.), 6-2

After getting out to a 5-0 start, the Red Devils had a tough trip to the Buckeye State, falling by seven on April 3 against Olentangy Liberty, which won last year's Division I state championship, and by two April 4 to Thomas Worthington before bouncing back April 5 with a win over New Albany. The tough out-of-state competition continues this week with Hinsdale Central set to host Brighton (Mich.) on April 11. Previous: 4

6. Carmel (Ind.), 5-1

In a rematch of the last three state title games, Sophie Mock converted a free-position shot to tie the game heading into halftime against Guerin Catholic, then scored her 200th career goal in the fourth quarter to secure the 7-6 victory. Mock finished with three goals, two caused turnovers and a ground ball, while fellow senior Elle Tomalia added two goals, an assist, two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Carmel returns from spring break this weekend with a trip to Ohio, as it faces Strongsville and host Thomas Worthington in the Galipault-Wolford Classic. Previous: 5

7. Guerin Catholic (Ind.), 9-1

The Golden Eagles finally suffered their first loss, by a single goal to Carmel in a rematch of the last three state championship games, but there's still plenty to be excited about for Guerin Catholic. The Golden Eagles' resume remains one of the Midwest's most impressive, including quality wins over solid Buckeye State teams Upper Arlington and Worthington Kilbourne. Next up, Guerin Catholic takes on yet another solid opponent when it comes off spring break to face 3-1 Bishop Chatard (Ind.) on the road. Previous: 6

8. Kentucky Country Day (Ky.), 5-2

The Bearcats entered the break with a 5-2 record, with quality wins over Eastern (Ky.) and Ravenwood (Tenn.) and their only losses coming against a pair of top-10 Georgia teams in Lambert and Roswell. Unsurprisingly, Kentucky Country Day has had a prolific attack, averaging 14.9 goals led by senior Leighton Spears (16 goals, 18 assists) and juniors Ellie Beam (24 goals, 11 assists, 36 draw controls, 17 caused turnovers) and Ceci Flowers (17 goals, 5 assists, 15 draw controls). Previous: 8

9. Upper Arlington (Ohio), 4-1

The Golden Bears have been tested with three of their first five games decided by four goals or fewer. That includes one of their more impressive wins, an 8-6 victory over Division II state champion St. Francis DeSales, and their lone loss, by a single goal to state runner-up Guerin Catholic (Ind.). After a slew of close, early games, Upper Arlington won more comfortably its last time out, doubling up on a very solid Jackson (Ohio) team, 14-6, behind an impressive performance from junior Ella Smith. Previous: 9

10. St. Francis DeSales (Ohio), 5-1

Last year's Division II state champions have been making noise all season, starting with their 14-3 victory over Sacred Heart Academy (Ky.) in March and continuing with their emphatic win over New Albany (Ohio) to begin April. Three juniors led the way in the Stallions' 19-4 victory over the Eagles, with Campbell Heald tallying eight goals and two assists; Caroline Cross adding three goals, three assists and three draw controls; and Anna Bogan notching two goals, two ground balls and seven draw controls. West Top 10

There’s a new No. 1 atop the West Region. St. Ignatius (Calif.) remained perfect with a key win over Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.). It took overtime but St. Ignatius now holds the top spot and is one of two unbeatens in the Top 10.

Oak Ridge (Calif.) also hurdled Del Oro (Calif.) with a head-to-head victory. Coronado (Calif.) and Mira Costa (Calif.) enter the Top 10 as they both bring unblemished records.

4. Coronado (Calif.), 8-0

Coronado enters the rankings basking in two big out-of-region wins. The Islanders edged Mid-Atlantic power St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Va.) and then topped Midwest juggernaut Loyola (Ill.). They've outscored opponents, 138-40, this year. In their closest in-region game, they beat Torrey Pines (Calif.) 14-9. They should see some challenges with San Ramon Valley (Calif.), Cathedral Catholic (Calif.) and La Costa Canyon (Calif.) this week. Previous: NR

5. Oak Ridge (Calif.), 12-2

The Trojans went 2-0 last week against league opponents, shutting out Whitney (Calif.), 19-0, before defeating Del Oro (Calif.), 14-9, in a redemption match. 7. ThunderRidge (Colo.), 5-1

The Grizzlies are on a five-match winning streak after taking down Kent Denver (Colo.), 14-10, and dominating Fairview (Colo.), 13-2. ThunderRidge opens league play against Pine Creek (Colo.) next. Previous: 7

8. Mira Costa (Calif.), 14-0

The Mustangs have yet to drop a single game all season and find themselves in the Top 10 after taking down then-No. 6 Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) in a narrow 19-18 victory. Mira Costa was previously ranked the second top public school on the West Coast behind Foothill. Earlier this spring, Mira Costa secured wins over Torrey Pines (Calif.), Marlborough (Calif.) and Santa Margarita (Calif.). Previous: NR

9. Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) 13-1

The Knights defeated Santa Margarita (Calif.), 18-10, powered behind senior Brynn Perkins’ (Florida State) four goals before they surrendered their first loss of the season to Mira Costa (Calif.) in a 19-18 battle at home. Perkins netted seven goals, had seven draw controls and three assists against the Mustangs. On deck is a game against Yorba Linda (Calif.). Previous: 6
