For the first time this year, defending champion Tampa is not sitting atop the USA Lacrosse Division II Women’s Top 20. The Spartans tasted defeat for the first time last week, which opened the door for West Chester to ascend to the No. 1 position.
The Golden Rams (9-0) are one of just two remaining undefeated teams, powered by an offense that has eclipsed the 20-goal mark five times. After starting the season with eight straight home games, WCU is now in the midst of a stretch during which it plays five of six on the road. Their first test as the new No. 1 comes Wednesday at No. 15 East Stroudsburg.
The nation’s other undefeated team is No. 2 Lynn, which jumped three spots this week to earn its highest-ever ranking. The Fighting Knights captured their fifth Top 20 win with a six-goal victory over No. 7 Saint Leo on Saturday.
No. 3 Embry-Riddle also made history, joining Lynn as a second Sunshine State Conference team to earn its highest ranking. The Eagles survived a pair of overtime games last week, including their 15-14 win over Tampa which secured the program’s first-ever victory over a No. 1-ranked team.
In addition to West Chester’s road test at ESU, there are several other notable games on Wednesday’s schedule, including No. 2 Lynn at No. 5 Florida Southern, No. 10 Slippery Rock at No. 19 Seton Hill, and No. 3 Embry-Riddle at No. 7 Saint Leo.
