They're Back! Anne Arundel Wins First NJCAA Title Since 2007

Anne Arundel Community College completed an undefeated season and claimed its third NJCAA title Sunday, and it likely wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of tournament offensive MVP Lyndsey Miller.

Miller deposited seven goals with two assists in the 14-11 win over Onondaga, powering an offense that average close to 20 goals per game in the regular season. Nellie Gownley added three goals, and Julia Sokolowski had two goals and one assist.

It’s the Riverhawks’ third title and first since 2007.

Anne Arundel (10-0) started slowly but flipped the momentum with an 8-1 run between the third and fourth quarters after clearing woes allowed Onondaga (10-3) to stay competitive.

But the 8-1 run was a back breaker. Down 14-8, Onondaga’s late three-goal run in the final nine minutes was not enough to erase the deficit in its entirety.

It helped that Anne Arundel dominated possession with a 24-5 draw advantage. Savanna Reitz led the Riverhawks with nine draw controls. Miller and Sokolowski each added five.

When Onondaga did get possession, it struggled to finish consistently. That’s in large part due to the efforts of Anne Arundel goalie Kaitlyn Evans, who made 11 saves.
