With lots of chalk last week, there was minimal movement in the USA Lacrosse Division II Women’s Top 20, but the one newcomer is significant — Dominican (N.Y.) joins the Top 20 for the first time.
The Chargers, 14-1 overall with a 13-game winning streak, stand atop the CACC standings and are the favorite to capture the league’s AQ for the NCAA tournament, potentially earning their first-ever berth. Dominican’s only loss was March 4, a competitive 13-8 setback at No. 3 Florida Southern.
This week’s top five remains unchanged, with undefeated West Chester retaining the top spot for the fourth straight week. The Golden Rams close out their regular season this week with games against Shepherd and Bloomsburg before beginning play as the likely No. 1 seed in the PSAC tournament April 29.
Three SSC teams remain bottlenecked just behind WCU at the top, with No. 2 Tampa, No. 3 Florida Southern and No. 4 Embry-Riddle all heading into SSC tournament semifinals on Thursday. Winners meet Sunday in the SSC championship game.
No. 5 Maryville, winner of 14-straight since its season-opening loss against Tampa, closes out its regular season this week against No. 19 Rockhurst and William Jewell.
The NCAA released its first regional ranking last week, identifying the top teams contending for postseason spots across the four geographical regions. The second regional ranking will be released Wednesday.
Selections for the expanded NCAA tournament bracket of 24 teams — a combination of conference automatic qualifiers and at-large selections — will be announced Sunday, May 4.
