Middlebury and Tufts had been on a collision course all season, and the much-anticipated matchup finally occurred this week; it did not disappoint, as the game came down to the wire, and the Panthers won by one.
Hope Shue scored four goals and added four assists while earning 10 draw controls. The last of those draw control wins was crucial. Margie Carden scored with 25 seconds remaining to pull Tufts, which at one point in the fourth quarter was down 15-10, within one. Shue won the ensuing draw and ran out the clock. The victory snapped Tufts’s 12-game unbeaten streak while extending Middlebury’s winning streak to 64 games.
Despite the loss, Tufts remained No. 2 in the USA Lacrosse Division III Women's Top 20.
Since losing to Trinity on March 23, Babson has won seven in a row, including three this past week. In four of those victories, the Beavers have scored at least 20 goals, including April 11 against Framingham State.
Claire Connolly continues to impose her will on the opposition. She scored five goals against MIT, six against Framingham State and four against Bowdoin. She also totaled 35 draw controls, including 19 against the Rams. Those victories, combined with Trinity’s two losses this week, puts Babson back ahead of the Bantams.
Despite a win from Roanoke, the team holding the No. 20 position last week, Rowan’s thrilling 11-10 victory over Franklin & Marshall was too big to ignore. Molly Green scored two goals, including the game-winner with 30 seconds remaining. Elaina Corson led all scorers with four goals and an assist, while Calista Burke — who scored two goals — led the way defensively with four caused turnovers.
