The dismantling of the Pac-12 appears to be continuing with reports coming out that Cal and Stanford — along with SMU — will be joining the Atlantic Coast Conference for all sports for the 2024-25 academic year.
It effectively means the end of Pac-12 women’s lacrosse. The league started sponsoring the sport in 2018 and has sent multiple teams to the NCAA tournament on three occasions (2018, 2019 and 2022).
All six of the league’s women’s lacrosse playing schools are moving to new conferences:
Arizona State to the Big 12 (no women’s lacrosse conference)
Cal to the ACC
Colorado to the Big 12 (no women’s lacrosse conference)
Oregon to the Big 10
Stanford for the ACC
USC to the Big 10
Left in limbo once again are San Diego State and UC Davis. In May 2022, the Pac-12 announced that San Diego State and UC Davis would be joining the Pac-12 as affiliate members for women’s lacrosse no later than 2023-24. San Diego State and UC Davis had played with Pac-12 schools in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation before the Pac-12 started sponsoring women’s lacrosse, but have played as independents since Fresno State dropped the sport following the 2021 season.
