Get the popcorn ready, because this season of women’s lacrosse is bringing the entertainment and upsets every week.

At this point, the teams within the USA Lacrosse Division III Women’s Top 20 — and even those on the bubble — are fairly established, but their positioning in the ranking is far from set in stone. Only three teams stayed put at their ranking this week, including Middlebury standing tall at No. 1.

The pack of undefeated teams is thinning as well, with both Gettysburg and Salisbury suffering their first losses of the season.

HOT

William Smith (+1)

William Smith is on a roll and scored two more wins last week against Geneseo and Cortland. That, coupled with a Gettysburg loss, moves the Herons up to No. 2.

Stevens (+2)

Stevens is a perfect 5-0 and is coming off a 9-7 win over York on Saturday. The Ducks play a pair of midweek games, against Colorado College on Tuesday and No. 17 Chicago on Thursday.

NOT

York (-3)

York has played a very strong schedule thus far, and all three of its losses are to ranked opponents. But, with a 1-3 record and teams around them coming off strong weeks, the Spartans dropped down a few spots.

Salisbury (-3)

Salisbury is still rolling, but much like York, its drop is thanks in part to a 13-7 loss to Wesleyan, and also due to the performances of the teams around it in the top 10. The Sea Gulls have a tough matchup against Gettysburg on Wednesday.

IN

Williams (No. 20)

Williams couldn’t ask for a better start, allowing just five goals over three games, and at a perfect 3-0, it finds itself in the Top 20. Williams’ schedule gets significantly harder in the coming weeks, starting with a NESCAC clash against Wesleyan on Saturday.

OUT

Cortland (was No. 20)

Cortland suffered a pair of losses this past week, 11-10 in overtime to Ithaca and 15-4 to William Smith, putting it back on the bubble for the Top 20.
