With five of its teams ranked among the top 10 in this week’s USA Lacrosse Division II Women’s Top 20, the Sunshine State Conference is flexing its collective muscle through the first three weeks of the 2025 season.
The five SSC teams — No. 1 Tampa, No.2 Florida Southern, No. 8 Embry-Riddle, No. 9 Lynn and No. 10 Saint Leo — start the week with a combined 17-1 record, including eight wins over ranked opponents.
Defending national champion Tampa leads the SSC pack and has looked dominant through three games, including Saturday’s 20-6 thrashing of visiting Adelphi in a rematch of the 2024 NCAA championship game. The Spartans have scored 60 goals with an average scoring margin of almost 12 goals per game.
Two of the best matchups in the week ahead involve these SSC teams, with Lynn hosting Embry-Riddle on Wednesday before visiting No. 11 UIndy on Sunday.
UIndy was the biggest climber in this week’s Top 20, jumping five spots following a 2-0 opening week that included a 9-8 comeback victory over then-No. 3 Regis. Freshman Kendall Conrad’s first career goal, with 14 seconds left, was the winner for the Greyhounds.
Meanwhile, coming off an 0-2 start that also includes a loss at No. 8 Maryville, Regis makes another Eastern swing this coming week, starting with a visit to No. 3 Pace. Coming off its opening win over Roberts Wesleyan, 2023 champion Pace will test itself this week with back-to-back games against No. 15 Seton Hill and Regis.
