Penn appeared to be well on its way to an Ivy League championship, up by four goals Keeley Block assisted Anna Brandt with 9:09 remaining Sunday afternoon.
It was the punctuation mark on a three-goal run in response to Yale’s four-goal run. With the seesaw tipping the Quakers’ way, Jenna Collignon and the Bulldogs took over.
Ashley Kiernan, Sky Carrasquillo, Megan Kitagawa and Collignon scored in the final 8:18 — including Collignon’s tying goal with six seconds left — then Fallon Vaughn assisted Taylor Lane in overtime to finish the comeback.
Yale beat Penn 10-9 to capture the Ivy League’s automatic qualifier. Penn should also find its way to the NCAA tournament during tonight’s Selection Show, 9 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.
During Yale’s run to end regulation, Penn had chances but couldn’t capitalize. Three of those possessions ended in turnovers, and one ended in a saved shot.
For as balanced as Yale’s effort was, Collignon was the star. She had four goals and seven draw controls, setting the Ivy League record for goals in a tournament.
Anna Brandt also had four goals on the other side, and Niki Miles did her part with three points (one goal, two assists) and seven draw controls.
But when Yale got on a run, Penn didn’t have an easy answer.
