It was a daunting week for Colby, as the Mules took on the second- and third-ranked teams, Franklin and Marshall and Tufts, in the span of a few nights, both on the road.
The 1-1 split for Colby meant good things for the Mules and Jumbos but bad things for the Diplomats.
Senior Gennie Littlejohn scored a player-down goal with 11 seconds remaining in the first quarter to give Colby a 3-2 lead, one it wouldn’t lose for the remainder of the game. Her goal at the start of the second quarter ensured that.
Tufts had three players — Allie Zorn (three goals, two assists), Ella Lesperance (two goals, two assists) and Margie Carden (one goal, three assists) — tally at least four points, as 11 of 18 players earned a point in the team’s big triumph over Colby in a battle of unbeatens.
The results mean Tufts finally climbs past Franklin and Marshall into the second spot in the USA Lacrosse Division III Women's Top 20, while Colby — thanks to beating the previous No. 2 team — still moves up one place in the ranking. Franklin and Marshall drops behind the Mules to No. 4.
Elsewhere, St. John Fisher earned a big victory over William Smith to remain undefeated and vault to No. 10. Amherst also continued beating ranked opponents, this time toppling Stevens to make another big move back up the Top 20.
