Division II’s top teams have delivered in the early weeks of the 2025 season.
Adelphi, Tampa, Limestone and Lenoir-Rhyne remain unbeaten and in control of the top spots in this week’s USA Lacrosse Division II Men’s Top 20.
The most impactful result of the weekend was Lenoir-Rhyne’s 15-9 win over Rollins, a firm top-10 contender itself. Donovan Powell’s six goals pushed the Bears to their third win in a row, but it should be noted that Lenoir-Rhyne was down 6-0 at the start and still came back to win.
After a scary season-opening overtime win over Maryville, Lenoir-Rhyne’s defense took control in the tilt against the Tars, allowing just one goal in the second half.
Tampa continued to handle its business with two more wins, bringing the Spartans to 4-0. Graduate transfer Connor Theriault has been spectacular in net, making 51 saves (63 percent) and posting a goals-against average of 7.55.
The Spartans remain the team to beat in the peninsula early on, but another Florida team has entered the Top 20.
Saint Leo has jumped into the ranking after a 2-0 start, and it took the place of the team it defeated on Sunday. Unfortunately for Rockhurst, that was its second dropped game in a row, which freed up space for the Lions.
Florida Southern also fell out of the Top 20 and was replaced by Anderson, which dropped 21 goals on Embry-Riddle to win its first game of the season.
Next weekend’s slate sees the debuts of Pace, Frostburg State and Bentley, all three of which should be players in the Top 20 for the rest of the spring.
