For roughly two decades, the website LaxPower played an integral role in helping to fuel interest in the sport. Now, with the help of USA Lacrosse, lacrosse fans will be able to access some of the information traditionally found on LaxPower.
Working with LaxPower founder Larry Feldman, USA Lacrosse is supporting the return of college power ratings and tournament predictions for the launch of the new entity. Plans are underway to bring back more of the content from the original LaxPower, including years of archived data.
The new information can be found at: https://www.laxmath.com/laxpower/index.html
LaxPower’s legacy is honored with a pillar near Tierney Field at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. The plaque on the pillar reads:
In April of 1987, Lawrence Feldman generated a power rating system for Division I men’s lacrosse. When the results were published on the website ‘College Lacrosse USA’, it launched a new website called LaxPower.
In the ensuing years, a core group was assembled to support schedules, scores and ratings of college and high school lacrosse. Not only did the power rating based on goal differential help measure the comparative strength of college teams, it also provided the seeding for high school state championship tournaments and then national ratings. Aside from ratings, LaxPower provided timely lacrosse news, lacrosse rules, classified lacrosse ads, lacrosse links, team websites, All-Americans and up-to-date scoreboards.
In addition, a forum was created for the lax community where members expressed their views on all subject matters related to lacrosse. This forum exploded with a membership in excess of 60,000 patrons and became the place to visit for the timeliest sharing of lacrosse news and opinions.
At its peak, LaxPower was annually drawing 101 million page views, 17 million visits and 4.1 million unique visitors a year. A typical day during the season would bring in excess of 70,000 visitors to the website.
