Navy’s Julia Collins scored a school-record eight goals to lead the Midshipmen to a 23-11 victory over UMass and into the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time in school history. Collins, who also scored two goals in Navy’s first-round upset of seventh-seeded Penn, is the Epoch/US Lacrosse Player of the Week.
Collins got the Midshipmen going against UMass with three goals in the first 10 minutes. Navy nearly matched its season high of 24 goals and the 12-goal margin of victory was its fourth-largest this season, but came against one of its toughest opponents. UMass reached the quarterfinals last year and had defeated nationally ranked Colorado in the first round.
