Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Wednesday, May 17

May 17, 2023
Matt DaSilva

Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. McCabe Millon had a moment Tuesday.

Million, Inside Lacrosse’s No. 1-ranked high school senior and the son of two Hall of Famers, split from his right to his left and sunk an overtime jumper to lift McDonogh (Md.) to an 8-7 win over Boys’ Latin (Md.) in the MIAA-A semifinals at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Dad approves.

The Eagles, ranked No. 2 in the latest Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25, will play No. 12 Calvert Hall (Md.) in the championship game Friday. The Cardinals defeated Loyola Blakefield (Md.) 11-8 in the other semifinal. There are five MIAA teams in the top 25.

Here are the high school rankings reports that came out Tuesday.

Boys: National Top 25 | Regional Top 10s
Girls: National Top 25 | Regional Top 10s

2. Virginia’s Cole Kastner has entered the transfer portal with the intent of playing Division I basketball in 2024-25, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Tuesday.

A 6-foot-7 defenseman, Kastner was one of the top basketball players in the Bay Area at Menlo School (Calif.) and received recruiting interest from a few Pac-12 schools before choosing to focus on lacrosse.

3. The National Lacrosse League announced finalists for the 2022-23 NLL Awards on Tuesday.

Roughnecks goalie Christian Del Bianco, Bandits forward Dhane Smith and Riptide forward Jeff Teat are the finalists for NLL MVP.
