For more than 25 years, MedStar Health and USA Lacrosse have invested in a partnership that has improved health, wellness and game experience at all levels of play.

Our collaboration has included education, research, clinical care and health administration efforts that have improved injury prevention, player performance and overall safety for the sport.

MedStar Health is one of the country’s largest nonprofit health care systems, with a special interest and expertise in sport medicine and wellness. In partnership with USA Lacrosse, we are proud to be home to the leading lacrosse sports medicine program in the country.

We provide coverage for the world championships, coordinate care for the 12 U.S. national and developmental teams, develop health services for the professional game and cover more than 200 events at the USA Lacrosse headquarters annually.

Our providers in athletic training, physical therapy, performance medicine, primary care sports medicine and orthopedic surgery have served in leadership roles across all levels of the game. Working with the USA Lacrosse Sports Science and Safety Committee, MedStar Health researchers have been integral in defining the game’s injury epidemiology and increasing the understanding of priority injuries such as concussion, commotio cordis, ACL tears and overuse conditions.

We are also working to better understand workload and training techniques required for different game formats as well as mental readiness and health for lacrosse participation. We have helped develop national best practices in lacrosse-specific emergency action planning, equipment utilization and health-related rules and coaching changes.

MedStar Health staffs a 10,000-square-foot performance center within USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. The center provides services to a wide range of athletes and the regional lacrosse community, but all resources turn over to the care of the U.S. National Teams when they are on campus. It is a unique platform that has allowed a best-practice, integrated approach to medical care and health services administration for the national teams.

This partnership represents MedStar Health at its best. As the game continues to grow, lacrosse-specific health and wellness services will help lead the way.
