Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Wednesday, Feb. 1
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Who’s No. 1?
For the second straight year, the pundits are torn between Maryland and Virginia.
The defending NCAA champion Terps received 18 of 25 first-place votes to get the nod over the Cavaliers for the top spot in the USILA Division I preseason coaches poll, which came out Tuesday.
The Cavaliers are No. 1 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse media rankings.
Maryland opens the season Saturday against Richmond. Virginia scrimmages at Georgetown then starts the regular season Feb. 11 against Michigan. The Terps and Cavaliers play each other March 18 in Charlottesville, Va.
2. It’s officially February.
With the college lacrosse season opener just days away, we continued our preseason rollout Tuesday with features on the No. 4-ranked Cornell men and Stony Brook women and asked our colleague Zack Capozzi of Lacrosse Reference for advanced metrics on every team ranked in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I Men’s and Women’s Top 20s.
