Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Tuesday, Sept. 26

September 26, 2023

Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Legendary and emerging names take center stage at U.S. Men’s Box National Team training camp.

The American box lacrosse landscape has changed significantly since Joel White and John Ranagan first suited up about a decade ago. The two legends were on hand to try out for the 2024 team alongside rising stars like Syracuse’s Joey Spallina. They all have the same goal under head coach Regy Thorpe: Advance to the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championship gold-medal game that narrowly alluded the 2019 squad. Matt Hamilton was in Utica for the tryouts.

2. Revisiting the most profound story we’ve ever produced.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of USA Lacrosse, we’re resurfacing some of the most impactful pieces in USA Lacrosse Magazine on the 25th of each month. None fit this bill better than this piece on the lasting legacy of one of our own, Gordon Corsetti.

WHAT WE’RE READING

  • Callum Jones, the No. 3 overall pick in the NLL draft, has signed a two-year deal with the New York Riptide.

  • St. Bonaventure is celebrating alum and PLL Championship MVP Brett Dobson, who made 18 saves for the Archers — every one necessary in the 15-14 win over the Waterdogs.

  • Army West Point announced it was endowing its head coaching position after head coach Jack Emmer, who spent 22 seasons on the sidelines for the Black Knights.

  • Former Tar Heels All-American and team captain Peter Murphy has been named director of lacrosse operations at UNC. Murphy was a volunteer assistant last season.
