Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Tuesday, Sept. 12

September 12, 2023
Beth Ann Mayer

Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Lacrosse community remembers its 9/11 victims.

Seventy-five of the 2,977 people killed by terrorists on 9-11 had known ties to lacrosse. On the 22nd anniversary of the attacks, USA Lacrosse remembered those we lost. You can, too.

2. ICYMI: The Premier Lacrosse League finals are set.

Amd then there were two.

The Archers and Waterdogs will play for the PLL championship. A win in the championship game set for Sept. 24 in Philadelphia would be the first for the Archers and second straight for the Waterdogs.

Jack Goods looks back and ahead.

WHAT WE’RE READING

  • Remembrances abound for former Boston College lacrosse player Welles Crowther, who sacrificed his life as an FDNY firefighter on 9/11. Q97.9 radio station and Inside Lacrosse both tell the story worth retelling.

  • Former Terps defensive star and Athletes Unlimited Defensive Player of the Year Abby Bosco remembered her father, who died on 9/11, in this piece by Alyssa Muir of Maryland Athletics.

  • Caleb Hammett isn't your typical lacrosse player.

  • Inside Lacrosse shared takeaways from the PLL semifinals.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

Like many in the community, Paul Rabil took time to remember Welles Crowther for his heroism on 9-11. His post on social media included a video pan of the red bandanas synonymous with Crowther’s name.

WHAT’S ON TAP

The next Charlotte North? Boston College added two big-name transfers in Rachel Clark and Emma LoPinto during the summer, but we spoke with them for our latest issue — and neither are trying to pick up that mantle. The story runs online tomorrow.
