Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Tuesday, May 9

1. Time to grade the committees — the takes are…not that hot this year.  
   Last year, Twitter lit up before the men’s Division I Selection Show faded to black, bemoaning the exclusion of Duke and Notre Dame. In 2023, Duke is the top seed and the Irish — who printed out last year’s bracket as motivation this season — is No. 3. As Patrick Stevens wrote, the bracket was uncontroversial and made sense.
   
   The women’s bracket also tracked, but Jeremy Fallis has a bone to pick about Denver. The Pios may be perfect, but the committee fell just short of that.

2. Division III women’s bracket revealed on Selection Monday
   Unlike the rest of college lacrosse, the NCAA released its Division III women’s bracket on Monday morning. Forty-six teams were selected, including 32 automatic qualifiers. Not surprisingly, defending champion Middlebury has a first-round bye. The action begins Friday. See who else made it.

3.  Duke enters NCAA Tournament No. 1 Nike/USA Lacrosse Top 20
   It’s an all-ACC top three heading into the NCAA Tournament, with No. 1 Duke, No. 2 UVA and No. 3 Notre Dame topping the final  Nike/USA Lacrosse rankings until after the championship. The next three teams are from the Big Ten. But don’t sleep on Utah. Full rankings.

4. Wildcats top Nike/USA Lacrosse Top 20
   Northwestern is the consensus top team in Division I, earning the No. 1 seed in the tournament, IWLCA/ILWomen Poll and Nike/USA Lacrosse top 20. But the rest of this week’s top five don’t match the committee’s decisions. See the final rankings before the ones that matter most come out after the NCAA title game.

5. Single-day passes are now available for the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship
   Single-day passes for this summer’s World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in San Diego. Passes start at $40 for the event, which is set for June 21-July 1. Learn more and purchase tickets here.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• There are two newcomers to the top five of the men’s Division II rankings.

• Le Moyne is on the rise at the right time, moving up two spots in the women’s Division II rankings.

• Middlebury won the NESAC championship that alluded it during last year’s NCAA title-winning run. The defending champs are also No. 1 in the women’s Division III rankings.

• Expect the expected in the men’s Division III rankings (at least until later this month).

• Colorado is still alive in the NLL playoffs, but things got tense for the defending champ. That’s when Eli McLaughlin stepped up.

• The Big Ten announced its women’s individual award winners. Not surprisingly, Izzy Scane is Attacker of the Year. But a player from a program other than Maryland is Defender of the Year for the first time in seven seasons.

• ACC regular season co-champions Boston College and Syracuse swept the ACC women’s individual awards.

Athletes Unlimited will hold its draft tonight. Last year’s No. 1 pick, Charlotte North, will be featured in Going Pro, which premieres May 22 on AU’s YouTube channel. The USA women’s national team star discussed going from not knowing anything about lacrosse to being one of the modern era’s most recognizable names.
