Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The first Division I men’s rankings of the season are out.
Opening weekend left the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I men’s top 20 largely the same as the preseason version. The top 15 teams remained unchanged. But Johns Hopkins surged to No. 16 after being left out of the preseason rankings after upending Jacksonville. The Dolphins, previously No. 18, fell off the list Full rankings with an analysis from Patrick Stevens.
2. February cover and cover story drop.
The women’s Division I slate begins this weekend. When it does, No. 2 Maryland will step onto the field with an absolutely loaded defense. It’s nothing new in College Park, where “Defender U” isn’t just a social media campaign — it’s a legacy. Read the story online here and view the cover here.
3. Brian Holman takes over Cannons LC.
Brian Holman has been tapped as the new head coach of Cannons LC. Holman, a long-time UNC assistant and former Utah men’s coach, replaces Sean Quirk. Quirk cited a recent heart surgery when he stepped down from the Cannons in December. The team, which transitioned from the MLL to the PLL in 2020, went 1-9 last year. Full story.
