Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Olympic lacrosse? LA28 decision expected in the coming weeks
A decision on whether or not lacrosse will be added to the 2028 Olympics, set to take place in Los Angeles, is expected soon, according to officials. Lacrosse is one of nine sports the LA28 Organizing Committee is considering recommending to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the 2028 Games. If the organizing committee recommends lacrosse’s inclusion, the IOC would render final approval during a session Oct. 15-17 in Mumbai. It would be a “dream for all of us,” said U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Mike Sowers. Read more.

2. USA Lacrosse rolls out new event strategy
USA Lacrosse revealed a new events platform to bring nationwide opportunities to the lacrosse community. Highlights include a January Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Fall Showcase Event, gala and National Celebrate Lacrosse Week. Learn more.

3. Cannons turnaround season now includes No. 2 seed
The Cannons went 1-9 in 2022. This season, the club will be the second seed in the PLL playoffs. Last weekend’s games fittingly took place in Utah, where Cannons head coach Brian Holman once helped launch the Utah men’s lacrosse program. Jack Goods is back with his weekly notebook.

4. Coaching news from around the Division I ranks.

Multiple staffs announced new assistant coaches on Monday, including:

  • Kenzie Kent is rejoining the Harvard staff as an assistant coach after leaving for two years to serve in the same role under Kayla Treanor at Syracuse.

  • Former Maryland goalie Nick Kellinger is now an assistant coach at UMBC. He has spent the last four seasons at Mount St. Mary’s.

  • Skylar McArthur, who helped Team Canada to a silver medal at the U-19 World Lacrosse Championship, has been named an assistant coach at High Point.

WHAT WE’RE READING

  • Another one? Top 2024 lacrosse recruit Matt Jeffery of Cheshire High School (Conn.) is committed to playing lacrosse at Notre Dame. He wants to add football, too.

  • Speaking of two-sport stars, Brigid Duffy was one of the Patriot League's top lacrosse rookies in 2023. Duffy is also a standout soccer player, and she tallied one goal and one assist in the Black Knights' loss to Auburn over the weekend. Duffy also participated in USA Lacrosse's U20 training camp — it was quite a week.

  • UNC Athletics looks at how one-time Tar Heels are doing in the pros.

  • Dallas City Lacrosse is growing the game in the Lonestar State by providing young girls with an opportunity to play outside of school, writes Renee Umsted of the Lake Highlands Advocate.
