Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Tuesday, August 22
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. There’s a three-way tie for No. 25 in our way too early Division I men’s rankings.
Because it’s way too early, UMass, Marquette and Harvard tie for the final spot in our first forecast for the 2024 Division I men’s season. Nos. 21-24 all stand alone in the rankings, which will run all week on usalacrossemagazine.com. Patrick Stevens’ take on No. 21-25 (Tx3).
2. Big East’s big gains in 2024 have early excitement for 2024 in Division I women’s rankings.
A pair of Big East teams earned spots in the No. 21-25 round of way too early rankings. No, Denver isn’t one of them — something tells me we’ll see the Pios much later this week (And by something. I mean I’ve seen the rankings). However, Denver’s primary challengers — UConn and Marquette — grabbed spots in the No. 21-25 wave of way too early Division I women’s rankings. Kenny DeJohn shares why.
3. USA U20 is loaded with talent from NTDP.
USA U20 head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller wasn’t short on talent when training camp kicked off in Sparks on Monday. Of the 42 players named to the training team roster, 31 were a part of the USA National Team Development Program (NTDP). Launched in 2019, the program helps prepare players for college and donning the stars and stripes. Among the players from the pipeline participating in this week’s camp: Kori Edmondson (Maryland), Emma LoPinto (Boston College), Rachel Clark (Boston College) and Madison Taylor (Northwestern). Read more about the talented pipeline.
