Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The United States is off to a great start in the World Lacrosse Men’s Championship.

Three goals from senior team rookie Brennan O’Neill — the only collegian on the 23-man roster — were enough for the U.S. to hold off rival Canada 7-5 Wednesday night in San Diego.

Canada led 4-3 but was shut out in the third quarter, allowing the U.S. to build a three-goal lead. The U.S. has the day off Thursday and plays Australia on Friday at 10 p.m. Eastern.

2. Will playing on home soil ultimately be an advantage or distraction?

U.S. head coach John Danowski is leaning toward the latter. Still, he and the team are working to manage the noise and focus on the task at hand.

More here.

3. Virginia head coach Julie Myers is resigning.

Myers resigned Wednesday after 28 years leading the Cavaliers. Her teams made eight final four appearances and won an NCAA title in 2004. Virginia made the NCAA tournament every year of her tenure, not including the pandemic-canceled 2020 season.

4. Brown has filled its coaching vacancy with Katrina Dowd.

Fresh off a two-year stint helping elevate Army to historic success as an assistant and offensive coordinator, Dowd has earned her second head coaching gig. The former Oregon head coach is now in charge of Brown, a team coming off a 6-8 season.

The 2010 Northwestern graduate and U.S. team star replaces Keely McDonald.
