Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix for Monday, Feb. 27
Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. A signature win and a near miss.
4-0 is not unfamiliar territory for Army’s women’s lacrosse program – it opened the 2019 and 2020 seasons with 7-0 records – but Saturday’s win over Rutgers was the highest-ranked opponent it has ever beaten. Meanwhile, first-year Clemson had Notre Dame on the ropes before the Irish responded. More on the weekend in women’s lacrosse in The Sunday Slide.

2. The top looks familiar.
Maryland and Cornell played in last year’s NCAA’s men’s championship game and they both looked title-worthy on Saturday. The Terps held a strong Princeton offense to five goals while Cornell held Lehigh scoreless for 40-plus minutes. The 2019 and 2021 champ, Virginia, played its most complete game of the season. 3. Georgetown and Notre Dame are in opposite places.
Notre Dame has rebounded from a NCAA men’s tournament snub to start the season 3-0. The latest win came against Georgetown, a team trying to figure things out after an 0-3 start.
4. Goalies are the underrated weapon of Sixes.
Chrome won the Premier Lacrosse League Championship Series on the back of goalie Sean Sconone in a thrilling 24-23 victory over Atlas.

5. Coming back to lacrosse.
Rodney Dumpson played on the same midfield line with the Gait brothers at Syracuse. He’s had a “bittersweet” relationship with the sport, but the man who scored the clinching goal of the 1989 NCAA championship has had his love rekindled.
6. Celebrating 25 years with a look back at Uganda’s 2014 world championship trip.
USA Lacrosse is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2023. As part of the celebration, we’re looking back on some of our best magazine stories from those years. Here’s a look back at Uganda becoming the first African nation to play in a world championship.
