Dialed In: Your Lacrosse Fix For Friday, May 5

Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. May the Fourth be with you.

What a day we had in NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse on Thursday night. Conference semifinals filled the slate from noon to midnight, and a total of four top-seeded teams fell out of their conference tournaments.

• Michigan picked up one of the biggest wins in program history, outscoring Penn State 17-15 in a thriller at Homewood Field. Click here for a full game recap from Hopkins.

• UAlbany smothered Vermont en route to a 10-4 victory in the America East semifinals

• High Point erased a five-goal deficit in the second half to down Saint Joseph’s 16-14 in the Atlantic 10 semifinals.

• Christopher Yanchoris made 12 saves to lead Siena to the 11-8 win over top-seeded Marist in the MAAC.

2. Heavyweights fought through some chaos in Division I women’s lacrosse.

Army made it through the game of the day, battling rival Navy in the Patriot League semifinals. Kathleen Sullivan eventually scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to seal a 12-11 win over Navy.

As for Florida, the Gators found themselves in a back-and-forth game with East Carolina in the American semifinals. Emma LoPinto fueled a five-goal fourth-quarter run that helped Florida erase a deficit and down the Pirates 12-9.

Here are some other highlights:

• Isabella Peterson dropped four goals to lead James Madison to the 13-7 win over Cincinnati in the American semis.

• Izzy Scane scored four goals and added four assists in Northwestern’s 18-11 win over Michigan.

• Maryland cruised past Rutgers 15-9 in the Big Ten semifinals thanks to six assists from Chrissy Thomas.

3. The Tewaaraton could be up for grabs during the NCAA tournament.

On the men’s side, the top four finalists seem locked in and headed for Washington D.C. As for the fifth finalist, the debate will rage on as the NCAA tournament looms. Click here for our Tewaaraton Watch.
