Top Teams Hold Serve in High School Girls' Regional Top 10 Rankings
Every Tuesday during the high school lacrosse season, USA Lacrosse updates Regional Top 10 and National Top 25 rankings to reflect the results of the previous week. Below are the Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Girls’ Regional Top 10 updates through games played April 16.
The Northeast Region is led by Darien (Conn.), which continues to showcase its talent against some of the best teams in the country. Ward Melville (N.Y.) takes its shot at the Blue Wave this week. Wantagh (N.Y.) also features a pair of challenging games. Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.) and Sacred Heart (Conn.) move into the Top 10 on fast starts.
McDonogh (Md.) leads an unchanged top seven in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Among the first seven, only St. Paul’s lost a game — to national No. 1 Darien — and the Gators proved themselves quite competitive. It’s the final spots in the Top 10 that opened with losses from St. Anne’s Belfield (Va.) and Georgetown Visitation (D.C.). Sliding into the rankings are Conestoga (Pa.) and Episcopal (Pa.) on the strength of their talented teams building winning streaks as they have come together.
The first eight teams are unchanged in South Region, as many teams gear up for postseason runs. Bartram Trail (Fla.) fills the Top 10 opening created by the disqualification from the state playoffs of defending champion Bishop England (S.C.). Among the Top 10, only Hockaday (Texas) and Anderson (Texas) have unbeaten marks this late in their seasons.
The top three teams remain the same in the Midwest Region, led by New Trier (Ill.). Three new teams enter the rankings. Forest Hills Central (Mich.) got by an old nemesis to jump to No. 4, Benet Academy (Ill.) used a big win to climb to No. 7 and Sacred Heart Academy (Ky.) has used a strong out-of-state schedule to help move into the rankings for the first time.
The West Region saw one new team join the Top 10 and some shuffling toward the top behind frontrunner Colorado Academy (Colo.). Unbeaten San Ramon Valley (Calif.) catapults to No. 2 in the region, and Valor Christian (Colo.) also makes a healthy jump to No. 3. California teams are gearing up for the postseason where they can make their mark.
