USA Lacrosse High School Boys' Players of the Week

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Games are considered from the previous Monday through Sunday.

NORTHEAST

Tommy Leder, Manhasset (N.Y.)

Coming off back-to-back defeats to Garden City (N.Y.) and Wantagh (N.Y.), Manhasset (N.Y.) was seconds from three straight home losses. The Indians needed someone to step up and they found a leader in Tommy Leder.

The sophomore midfielder scored the tying goal with 1.1 seconds left in regulation and followed up his own shot off the crossbar to net the winner in overtime, as Manhasset rallied for a 6-5 win, handing Rumson-Fair Haven (N.J.) its first defeat of the year. Indians head coach Keith Cromwell said someone in his midfield would have to step up and fill the void left by injured first-line midfielders Mike Mondiello and Luca Petruccelli. Leder did just that, leading by example.

MID-ATLANTIC

Luke Miller, McDonogh (Md.)

After scoring 46 goals and adding 27 assists as a junior, Miller’s senior spring didn’t start out the way he would have hoped. He missed the early portion of the lacrosse season while recovering from a back injury suffered during the football season. Miller returned in early April with a four-goal, two-assist performance in his first full game. Miller has continued to show he’s as good as ever since then.

Miller had a hat trick and an assist to help McDonogh jump out to an early lead on Boys’ Latin (Md.) and fend off the Lakers’ every rally. The Eagles became the first MIAA team to beat Boys’ Latin, 12-10, as they also have bounced back from a pair of mid-season losses to put themselves in the running for a three-peat as MIAA champions. Miller also had four goals and two assists in a 13-4 win over Mount St. Joseph (Md.). McDonogh is third in the MIAA standings. Miller, who was a member of the USA Select U16 team in 2021, is committed to play at Notre Dame next year.

SOUTH

Flynn Wilson, Lucy Beckham (S.C.)

Flynn Wilson has established himself as one of the top face-off masters in the U.S. Helping Lucy Beckham to a state championship over Greenville (S.C.), Wilson won 14 out of 15 draws. His championship performance followed an 18-for-20 performance at the X in the semifinals. Wilson also scored a goal in Lucy Beckham’s semifinal win over Oceanside Collegiate Academy (S.C.). The senior is committed to Binghamton.

MIDWEST

Andrew Schwitzenberg, Loyola Academy (Ill.)

The Ramblers sophomore delivered two of the biggest goals in his team’s 6-5 victory over rival New Trier (Ill.). The first came with the Trevians leading 2-0 to start the second quarter on a shot from deep to get his team on the scoreboard. The second came in overtime, as Schwitzenberg dodged inside and scored the game-winner. As exciting as the game itself was, it also served as a fundraiser, raising thousands of dollars ($4,800 and counting) for the Misericordia Foundation, which supports persons with developmental disabilities.

WEST

Michael Moynihan, Arapahoe (Colo.)

Senior attack Moynihan (Boston University) was an integral part of Arapahoe’s perfect week, registering six goals, six assists and six ground balls across two games. He scored four alone against league opponent Cherokee Trail (Colo.).
