The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

We begin with players from the South and West. Next week will have full national representation.

SOUTH

Maddox Johnson, Ponte Vedra (Fla.)

Ponte Vedra (Fla.) star Maddox Johnson has put up impressive numbers as his Sharks face their toughest schedule in years. Johnson has scored 30 goals and 10 assists through 11 games this year. His season is highlighted by an eight-goal performance at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.). Johnson is committed to Denver.

The junior attackman followed up a five-goal game in an 11-10 win over Redwood (Calif.) with another five goals plus an assist in a 13-8 win over Dallas Jesuit (Texas). Dykes had nine points on five goals and four assists in a convincing 17-5 win over Archbishop Mitty (Calif.) before scoring a hat trick and assisting on another goal in a 10-9 overtime loss to De La Salle (Calif.). A Duke commit, Dykes has helped the Gators stay competitive after they lost two key players to injury.
