Top Teams Hold Serve in Nike/USA Lacrosse HS Boys' Regional Top 10 Rankings
Every Tuesday during the high school lacrosse season, USA Lacrosse updates Regional Top 10 and National Top 25 rankings to reflect the results of the previous week. Below are the Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ Regional Top 10 updates through games played April 2.
Niskayuna had the biggest win in the Northeast Region. The top five remains led by unbeaten Brunswick (Conn.) and St. Anthony’s (N.Y.), and Brunswick faces a big test this week from Darien (Conn.). Darien also plays No. 4 Manhasset (N.Y.).
The first five in the Mid-Atlantic Region remain the same, with the top three teams — McDonogh (Md.), St. Mary’s (Md.) and Academy of the New Church (Pa.) — still unbeaten. It is the next five that show movement. Haverford (Pa.), despite a loss to a Lawrenceville (N.J.) team that is not ranked due to having post-graduate players, actually moves up. That’s because Malvern Prep (Pa.) lost twice. Losing to national No. 1 Brunswick (Conn.) did no damage, but falling to Radnor, which already lost to 4-4 Episcopal Academy (Pa.), did hurt.
The top four teams in the South Region remain in place with each streaking into April. Blessed Trinity (Ga.) and Bolles (Fla.) are both red-hot. St. Edward’s (Fla.), The Woodlands (Texas) and Roswell (Ga.) are all new to the Top 10 this week. Most Florida teams are closing in on the end of their regular seasons, too.
Culver Academy (Ind.) and Brother Rice (Mich.) are familiar names atop the Midwest Region, but a loss by Forest Hills Central (Mich.) to previously unranked Detroit Country Day (Mich.) shook up the rankings. St. Xavier (Ohio) continues to rise. St. Viator (Ill.) used a strong start to propel itself into the rankings for the first time.
In the West Region, unbeatens St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) and Legend (Colo.) are setting the pace. Big weeks by Mater Dei (Calif.) and Cherry Creek (Colo.) helped them keep pace with their respective state leaders. Cherry Creek took a key head-to-head meeting with Valor Christian (Colo.). This week matches up Legend and Mountain Vista in a Colorado showdown.
