Khalif Hocker has been a big-name player for St. Xavier (Ohio). Now the Bombers have a big-time win, too.

St. Xavier defeated Culver Academy (Ind.) in overtime to make a huge impact in this week’s USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25. Mount St. Joseph (Md.) also joined the ranking after its 7-2 start and strong showing in the MIAA conference.

Based on the reputation of Culver, which had been ranked in the top 10, St. Xavier joins the national ranking, but only at No. 20 because the Bombers already lost to Upper Arlington (Ohio), which itself lost to a couple of Mid-Atlantic teams.

The St. Xavier win caused the most significant movement in the Top 25, though there were others on the go. Loomis Chaffee (Conn.) climbed a couple spots after stopping Brunswick (Conn.) in a key matchup. Both St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) and Lawrenceville (N.J.) reinforced their top-four rankings with wins over Malvern Prep (Pa.).

Mount St. Joseph enters after winning seven of its first nine games. It lost by only one goal to a Landon (Md.) team that has been ranked all year, and it has a win over perennially strong Georgetown Prep (Md.). Last week, it knocked off a St. Paul’s (Md.) team that was missing players but has been good all spring.

The net effect of the week is that some very good teams like IMG Academy (Fla.), Half Hollow Hills (N.Y.), Darien (Conn.), Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) and Don Bosco (N.J.) have been squeezed out of the Top 25. Fortunately, it’s an exciting part of the season with everyone now immersed in their schedules and plenty of opportunities to rise.

Florida has playoffs beginning already, while states like Connecticut, Minnesota and New Jersey are just rounding into form.

Scroll below for this week's USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25 and Regional Top 10 rankings, with each team's previous ranking denoted in parenthesis.
