Tracy Coyne Resigns from Saint Francis, Heads to Duquesne

Tracy Coyne, the 17th-winningest coach in NCAA history and the winningest coach in Saint Francis history, is leaving the program after five season to become the head coach at Duquesne.

Duquesne announced the hire Tuesday afternoon after Saint Francis announced her resignation on Monday.

Coyne spent five years in Loretto, Pa., with Saint Francis, recording the most wins (30) and Northeast Conference wins (18) in program history. During her last two seasons, the Red Flash went 18-14 overall and 12-6 in NEC play, advancing to the NEC tournament for the first two times in program history.

“What made Tracy stand out during the interview process was not only her attention to detail but leading a program that owns a defined and disciplined culture,” Duquesne vice president of athletics Dave Harper said. “We look forward to watching Tracy lead the Duquesne women's lacrosse program and providing a great experience both on and off the field for our student-athletes.”

Coyne began her coaching career in 1988 at Denison, spending two years there before a seven-year tenure at Roanoke. She was then named the first coach in Notre Dame history in 1996, leading the Irish to six NCAA tournament appearances and a national semifinal run in 2006.

Following her run at Notre Dame, Coyne was an assistant at Duquesne in 2012, the head coach at Washington & Jefferson in 2013 and an assistant at Dartmouth in 2014. She was the head coach at George Washington for five seasons from 2015-19 before taking over at Saint Francis.

Coyne also served as the head coach of the Canadian national team from 1999-2005. Canada finished in fourth place in the World Cup in both 2001 and 2005.
