Sue Murphy Back in Collegiate Coaching, Named Pfeiffer Head Coach

Sue Murphy, a former U.S. national team player and coach who led both Boston University and Richmond's women's lacrosse programs to national rankings as a head coach, has been named as the new head coach at Pfeiffer University.

Pfeiffer, a Division III school located in Misenheimer, N.C., completes in USA South and is coming off of a 5-13 season that included a 4-5 mark in league play.

As a player, Murphy was a two-time All-American at Massachusetts and scored 125 goals in her career. She was a member of the U.S. national team program as a player from 1990 to 1992.

Murphy began her coaching career at the Division III level at Muhlenberg before moving on to Boston University. From 1995 to 2001 she led the Terriers to a record of 55-48, highlighted by a 15-4 mark in 2000 when BU won the America East championship and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

From 2002 to 2009, Murphy was the head coach at the University of Richmond, leading the Spiders to Atlantic 10 tournament championships and NCAA berths in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Murphy, who was also the U.S. Development team head coach from 2000 to 2006, was inducted into the USA Lacrosse New England Chapter Hall of Fame in 2002.
