This season, USA Lacrosse will celebrate the accomplishments of players across Divisions I, II and III each Tuesday with Player of the Week recognition. Players of the Week are selected by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors based off a variety of factors, including individual performance and impact on team success.
JILL SMITH, MICHIGAN
Jill Smith scored 15 goals in 14 games for Michigan last season. Through two games in 2023, the sophomore already has 11 goals on 17 shots on goal, cementing herself as the top offensive threat on the Wolverines. She contributed in other areas, too, adding four ground balls, four caused turnovers and seven draw controls.
Michigan went 1-1 during its opening weekend, beating Jacksonville before falling to Florida. Still, Smith put herself on the map as a player other teams need to gameplan to stop — or, probably more accurately, try to slow down.
CAROLINE GASTONGUAY, ROLLINS
Caroline Gastonguay helped No. 10 Rollins to a 2-0 week with a pair of road wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone. In a 10-9 win over Lenoir-Rhyne, the graduate attacker had three goals and two assists. She did it all in a 13-8 win over Limestone, posting four goals, six assists, six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
A 77-point scorer in 2022, Gastonguay is already well on her way to surpassing that career high.
HALEY LARSEN, BERRY
What a start to 2023 for Berry midfielder Haley Larsen. The Vikings are 2-0 in large part to the overall contributions of Larsen, who has produced four goals, three assists, 10 ground balls, seven caused turnovers and 14 draw controls.
The junior is coming off a career season, and her start to 2023 looks like she is gunning for her career-best marks.
