Maryland Controls Tempo, Reaches No. 3 in Division I Men's Top 20

Following its statement win over then-No. 2 Syracuse, Maryland has made the climb to No. 3 in the USA Lacrosse Division I Men’s Top 20.

The 11-7 loss in College Park dropped Syracuse to No. 7.

Maryland won by doing what teams led by John Tillman do best — controlling the tempo. The Orange, who entered 3-0 with a high-powered offense that likes to get out and run, couldn’t get much going against the Terps during cold, rainy conditions.

Richmond, which fell victim to Maryland in week zero, made arguably equal statement in week two. The Spiders beat in-state rival Virginia for just the second time ever and the first time since 2022. As a result, Richmond makes its season debut in the Top 20 at No. 11.

Every team ranked this week has now played at least one game with the beginnings of Ivy League play on Saturday. A couple Ivy teams in the hunt suffered losses, too, further shaking things up.

Continue below to see the entire Top 20, which is compiled by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors.
