Maryland suffered a brief (and slight) tumble down the USA Lacrosse Division I Men's Top 20 a week ago, but the Terrapins prevented things from snowballing in week 10.
A 13-8 win over an Ohio State team that entered the week at No. 2 and on an 11-game winning streak has Maryland replacing the Buckeyes in the second spot behind No. 1 Cornell, which further bolstered its resume with a 17-12 win over Syracuse at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y.
The loss for the Orange, who entered as one of the hottest teams in Division I, drops them to No. 7 — creating opportunities for Penn State and Army to make modest one-spot climbs themselves.
One of the most notable results of the weekend, or at leasts one of the most interesting, was Denver's 7-3 win over Georgetown. The low-scoring affair perhaps told more of Georgetown than it did of Denver, but either way, the Pios are rising while the Hoyas are falling.
Back into the Top 20 this week are both UMass (No. 19) and St. Joseph's (No. 20). Their fates are tied together with identical 9-3 records and UMass' head-to-head win over the Hawks.
