Kevin Cassese, Lehigh’s head men’s lacrosse coach for the past 16 seasons, is leaving Bethlehem to join Lars Tiffany’s staff at Virginia, according to a report from Inside Lacrosse. Cassese confirmed the move to IL’s Matt Kinnear.

Cassese will replace Sean Kirwan — who left UVA to be Dartmouth’s next head coach — as the Cavaliers’ offensive coordinator. He will also be UVA’s associate head coach.

Lehigh advanced to the Patriot League semifinals in 2023 and finished the season 10-5. Lehigh had the No. 17 scoring offense in the country last season at 13.73 goals per game. Virginia was first (17.24).

“For me, it was simply the right time for a change and the right time for a new challenge on my career path,” Cassese told Inside Lacrosse.

Cassese and Tiffany have history on the same staff at Stony Brook, where Tiffany was the head coach from 2005-06. Cassese served as his assistant in his first coaching job out of college. At Duke, Cassese was an All-American and won the McLaughlin Award as the nation’s top midfielder in 2002.

Cassese was on the U.S. men’s national team that won a gold medal in 2002 and was on the U.S. team that earned silver in 2006.
