Season 2 of the WPLL is almost upon us, and the league is shaking things up for 2019. In a video posted to social media Tuesday morning, the league (along with a handful of its star players) unveiled new team names and logos for the upcoming season.
Much like its new partner, the Premier Lacrosse League, the WPLL decided to drop the geographical tags from specific team names. Teams like the New England Command will now play as the WPLL Command.
The league, founded and headed by Michelle DeJuliis, is entering its second season after the New England Command took down the Baltimore Brave at US Lacrosse Headquarters to win the inaugural WPLL championship.
Here’s a list of the new team names, revealed by the WPLL:
WPLL Brave (formerly Baltimore Brave)
WPLL Command (formerly New England Command)
WPLL Fire (formerly Philly Fire)
WPLL Fight (formerly NY Fight)
WPLL Pride (formerly Upstate Pride)
Since the first season wrapped, the WPLL has partnered with the PLL to stage games in conjunction with new league’s stops this summer. It released its 2019 schedule – a 10-game slate that runs from June 2 to July 20 and hits five different locations along the Eastern Seaboard. Also, ESPN announced it would stream WPLL games throughout the summer on ESPN3, in addition to the championship game airing on ESPNU.
The best women’s lacrosse players in the world will suit up once again in 2019, hoping to continue the upward trajectory of the women’s game.
