Seven conference champions were crowned Sunday in Division I women’s lacrosse, just in time for the NCAA tournament selection committee to parse out the 26-team field.

America East
Stony Brook 22, Albany 14

Top-ranked Stony Brook completed an undefeated regular season and punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament with a 22-14 victory over Albany in the America East championship game Sunday at Lavalle Stadium. It’s the sixth straight conference title for the Seawolves (19-0).

Taryn Ohlmiller assisted on five of Stony Brook’s first 12 goals en route to a two-goal, seven-assist performance. Kylie Ohlmiller added a game-high seven goals, while Courtney Murphy’s five goals marked her sixth straight game with five or more.

It wasn’t a blowout throughout, however. The Great Danes jumped to a 3-1 lead and were up 7-6 late in the first half before the Seawolves scored four goals in 74 seconds and then two more in the final 1:34 to take a 12-8 advantage into halftime.  The momentum carried into the second half, as Stony Brook scored six of the first seven goals out of the break.

The Minutewomen scored two goals in the final eight minutes of regulation to force overtime. Richmond goalie Megan Gianforte made a huge save with 58 seconds left to keep the game tied. Megan Whittle scored a career-high eight goals and Kali Hartshorn reeled in a career-high 15 draw controls to lead Maryland to its third straight Big Ten conference championship with a 21-12 victory over Penn State in Sunday’s final in Ann Arbor, Mich.

With 288 career goals, Whittle now stands just one goal shy of Gail Cummings for No. 2 in NCAA history.

The Terps ended the first half on an 8-1 run to take an 11-4 lead into halftime. They’ve lost just one Big Ten game since entering the conference in 2015.

CAA
James Madison 16, Towson 10

A senior class that already had more wins that any other group in James Madison history, put an exclamation point on its history with a 16-10 victory over Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game at Sentara Park.

The Dukes needed overtime to beat the Tigers, 17-16, just a week ago, but for much of the game on Sunday it looked like a coronation for a class that has now won 57 games and will play in the NCAA tournament all four years — the first JMU senior group to do that since 2001. Read more here.

Ivy League
Princeton 13, Penn 10

After starting the season slowly, No. 12 Princeton will enter the NCAA tournament playing as well as anyone in the country.

The Tigers stayed hot with a 13-10 win over No. 10 Penn to repeat as Ivy League women’s lacrosse tournament champions at home Sunday.

Princeton’s third tournament title in four years came with a late run over a Quakers team that they had manhandled 21-8 only 11 days earlier on the same Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. The Tigers’ Ivy repeat earned them the conference’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament. Read more here.

Patriot League
Navy 17, Loyola 10

Senior attacker Julia Collins scored six goals to lead Navy to a 17-10 victory over host Loyola in the Patriot League championship game Sunday. It marks the second straight year that the Midshipmen have upended the Greyhounds as the top seed. Last year, Navy rode that momentum all the way to its first-ever NCAA tournament final four. Collins scored four goals in the game’s first 10 minutes Sunday. Her two second-half goals came after Loyola had closed within three each time.

Big South
High Point 18, Winthrop 7

High Point scored six of the first seven goals and the rout was on, as the Panthers clinched their second straight Big South championship with an 18-7 victory in the conference final Sunday. Abby Hormes led High Point with five goals and two assists, adding a season-high eight draw controls. The Panthers have won 16 games in a row, tying last year's school-record win streak and have won 17 games in a season for the first time in school history. Overall, HPU has won 33 of its last 36 games.
