Top-ranked Stony Brook completed an undefeated regular season and punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament with a 22-14 victory over Albany in the America East championship game Sunday at Lavalle Stadium. It’s the sixth straight conference title for the Seawolves (19-0).
Taryn Ohlmiller assisted on five of Stony Brook’s first 12 goals en route to a two-goal, seven-assist performance. Kylie Ohlmiller added a game-high seven goals, while Courtney Murphy’s five goals marked her sixth straight game with five or more.
It wasn’t a blowout throughout, however. The Great Danes jumped to a 3-1 lead and were up 7-6 late in the first half before the Seawolves scored four goals in 74 seconds and then two more in the final 1:34 to take a 12-8 advantage into halftime. The momentum carried into the second half, as Stony Brook scored six of the first seven goals out of the break.
Richmond players storm the field after Kim Egizi’s goal in overtime lifted the host Spiders to their first Atlantic 10 title and NCAA tournament appearance since 2007 with a 12-11 win over nine-time defending conference champ UMass.
