We’re only a couple weeks into the Division II season, but there’s beginning to be a little more clarity on what the schedule will look like as the NE-10 and Sunshine State Conference get going in March.

Almost every team in the top 20 has a schedule released, and more than half of the teams in the rankings have gotten their seasons underway.

Among the notable results over the past week was Wingate’s dominant 12-3 victory over Limestone. The three goals were the fewest the Saints have scored since a season-ending performance against Le Moyne on May 20, 2006.

Maryville enters the rankings after topping Lindenwood last Wednesday by scoring four straight and capping it with a Tyer Wenck overtime winner.

HOT

Wingate (+4)

Limestone may be down this year, but Wingate’s three-goal defensive effort is one of the more impressive regular-season feats in recent memory. It’s the Bulldogs’ first win over the Saints in school history, and Adam Vodovnik dropped six goals to make it happen.

NOT

Limestone (-4)

Losing three of its top players after the COVID-19 cancellation, Limestone knew it would have to find new weapons in 2021. After a 21-goal outing against Mars Hill, things were looking good that the Saints wouldn’t miss a beat. Limestone ran into a well-prepared and defensively focused Wingate team, and it did not score in the second half.

IN

Maryville

Maryville has played the top teams in Division II tough in the past couple seasons, but it pulled off a big one against Lindenwood midweek. Down 7-4 with 11:59 remaining in the third quarter, Maryville went on a four-goal run, from four different scorers, to pull off the overtime victory. Jake Foster led the way with a hat trick.

OUT

Catawba

A week after jumping into the ranking following an upset win over Belmont Abbey, Catawba is now looking at two straight losses. The nine-goal blowout loss to Mount Olive was easy to understand, but a three-goal loss to North Greenville knocks Catawba out for now.
